Judi Morales-Gibson - Textiles Lead
Judi has been manipulating fabric for more than thirty years as a seamstress and Indi-designer of costumes, Burning Man and Steampunk clothing. A 14-year Burner, Judi’s funktional designs are inspired by the creativity and innovation of Burning Man. Using both machines and hand-sewing techniques on upcycled materials, Judi says “I think of it as fabric fusion. Fabric is the most forgiving and flexible material.” Her Indi-design line, Cinder Garden Steampunk Designs, offers upcycled “play-clothes for your inner child”. Judi teaches Guerilla Upcycled Sewing, a class full of garment-making shortcuts, tricks and secrets because she believes sewing should be fun, not intimidating. “It’s never too late for a happy childhood.”
Chris “Chief” Gregor – Metal Lead
For Chief, learning by doing lead to his profession as a USCG licensed Chief Engineer on yachts and commercial ships throughout the world. The many skills that accompany this line of work have given him insight to the fact that not many people know how to work with their hands: as a shop lead he hopes to help change this.
Maggie Hargrave – Ceramics Lead
Maggie has been working with clay for 14 years. One year ago, she opened a small-scale ceramic business - Clay&Pine Pottery - focused on the creation of unique functional pieces. Maggie has a history of working to nurture community. She has worked for community organizations for many years, including her current role with The Family Resource Center of Truckee. The Truckee Roundhouse brings together two very important things for Maggie: art and community.
Grant Kaye - Wood Lead
Grant learned carpentry in high school shop class, and from his father. He has worked on many home improvement projects, including building his own kitchen cabinets, and installing his own hardwood floors. Grant also worked with Reno's Pier Group to build La Llorona, a replica of a Spanish Galleon that sailed the playa at Burning Man in 2012, Embrace in 2014, and the Space Whale in 2016. Grant is a professional photogrpaher and educator in Truckee.
Stephen Hoyt -- Tech Lead
Stephen Hoyt comes to the Roundhouse with over 50 years of experience in taking things apart, melting things, and building new things out of the smoldering, left over parts. A background in engineering and electronics, combined with his love of mechanisms, allows him to create innovative inventions and even develop his own unique Halloween costumes (that somehow always need soldering). Steve hopes to share his passion with others as they dabble in pneumatics, controllers, circuitry, CAD design, and whatever else meets their desires. He hopes to offer classes through local instructors on drones, Arduino® programming, robotics and more per request of the community.
