What is the Truckee Roundhouse?

The Truckee Roundhouse is a 501(c)3 California non-profit corporation whose mission is to run a "makerspace" in Truckee, California for the benefit of our entire community.

What is a Makerspace?

A makerspace is a community-operated shop or work space where people with common interests, often in computers, machining, technology, science, digital art or electronic art; can create, socialize and collaborate.

Where Is It?

The Truckee Roundhouse is located at hangar E3 (Echo 3) at the Truckee Tahoe Airport, street address 12116 Chandelle Way. Please note that this is different than our mailing address, which is PO Box 3501, Truckee CA 96160.

What can I do / learn /build/ make there?

There are many machines, tools, and facilities that the Roundhouse makes available to its members. We have five main shops: wood metal, ceramics, textiles, and technology. Each shop has both a basic set of tools one might expect in such a facility, as well as some specialty machines that make the Roundhouse unique, such as a CNC plasma cuter. Visit our shop pages to learn more!

When will it open?

The Roundhouse opened to the public on December 1, 2016. Head over to this page to sign up for our mailing list to sign up for updates, and buy your membership on this page.

How does Roundhouse work?

The Roundhouse is much like a fitness club / gym. Members join by purchasing monthly, discounted annual, or short-term memberships which allow them to take safety check-outs and then use all of the machines and facilities in whichever shop they choose.

Members and non-members alike can visit us for demos and short workshops. More in-depth classes are offered for members only. See our calendar to sign up.

Truckee-Tahoe Airport Partnership

We are excited to partner with the Truckee-Tahoe Airport District in providing this space to the community. The Airport is providing warehouse space at reduced rent and partnering with the Roundhouse to improve the space to be ready for occupation. The makerspace model perfectly aligns with the airport's interest in supporting STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts) education.
