Why Expansion
Matters
Our goal is to make creativity accessible to everyone in Tahoe Truckee, including students, families, professionals, and retirees alike. But right now, we’re turning away eager learners because there just isn’t enough room.
That’s why we’re expanding from 4,680 sq. ft. to nearly 7,000 sq. ft. — a 44% increase in space that will:
Double ceramics capacity to serve more classes and members
Relocate and make our metal shop safer
Remodel and upgrade our tech shop
Add a dedicated classroom for students and workshops
Expand offerings to jewelry making and stained glass
Give more makers, families, and youth the tools and room to create, learn, and thrive
Every square foot we build means more opportunity, expanded youth and community programs, and more space for makers, students, and families to create, learn, and thrive.
Our open floor plan limits our ability to run multiple programs at once. With 2,000 square feet of new space on the way, we’ll finally be able to host more makers, students, and ideas all at once.
Expansion Update
February 27, 2026
Construction is being done in phases so that the Roundhouse will remain open, but access to certain shops will be closed during our expansion project. We’ll communicate shop closure updates to members as soon as timelines are confirmed.

Metal Shop: Open
Textiles Shop: Open
Technology Shop: Open
Ceramics Shop: Closed until Mid-June
Wood Shop: Closed until Mid-June
Membership Options During Closure
If you would like to cancel your monthly membership while the Wood and Ceramics Shops are closed, please ask your lovely front desk volunteers during member hours or Slack Alissa at least 5 days before your renewal date.
Due to high demand and limited capacity in the ceramics shop:
Should you choose to cancel your membership during this phase of construction, and you want to keep your spot in the Ceramics Shop, you must pay a HOLD FEE of $75. Please email info@truckeeroundhouse.org to request the hold and arrange payment by May 15th.
If you cancel your membership and do not pay the hold fee, you will need to reapply when the shop reopens in June and will be placed on the ceramics waitlist (currently ~94 people).
If you keep your membership active for use of other shops, your ceramics spot will be retained.
