Join the annual Holiday Block Party at Truckee Tahoe Airport’s Nonprofit Row on December 11th from 4:30 pm - 8:30 pm to shop local for your holiday gifts. Truckee Roundhouse Community Makerspace, Tahoe Food Hub, and Sierra Community House are collaborating for the fifth year to host this festive holiday event with shopping, live music, two bars, maker activities, a raffle, Mogrog Rotisserie and Mountain Lotus food trucks, and of course, Santa and Mrs. Claus (brought to you by the Truckee Chamber of Commerce).

"Not only is it a fun and festive community tradition, but it’s also a meaningful opportunity to support small businesses, local farms, artists, and makers, all while uplifting three incredible nonprofits doing important work in our region,” said Tahoe Food Hub GM, Maggie Rohner. “We’re grateful to be part of an event that celebrates community connection and strengthens our local food system."

Tahoe Food Hub is hosting local food producers and farmers for shoppers, including Blackwell Bakery, Mountain Song Medicine, Radish Hotel, Dragonfly Eats by chef Billy McCullough, Flower Farm with fresh mandarins, and Towani Organic Farm with ginger, greens, and olive oil. Foothill Roots Farm will be joining for the first time.

Sierra Community House is hosting the Santa photo booth and hot cocoa, thanks to a partnership with the Truckee Chamber of Commerce. Local makers, like crochet artisans Jillian Culver and Eve Bilstein, plus Bryn Merrell, who makes art cards and notebooks, will also be found in their space. “Handmade and community support are the backbones of my business. I wouldn't be here otherwise,” said Merrell.

“It’s a fun night, but it also reminds us why our work matters,” said Paul Bancroft, Sierra Community House Executive Director. “Every year we end up having these great, unexpected conversations. Someone will tell us about the first time they visited our food distribution or how a neighbor connected them with our services.”

The Truckee Roundhouse will host 30 craft vendors inside and outside their space. Roundhouse volunteers and members will showcase their work, like Elise Auger of Suncup Studio, who makes wavy mugs. “I carve each thrown body with undulating ridges reminiscent of ripples in a lake, said Auger, who has been a member as long as she’s lived in Truckee. “I'm consistently warmed by the reciprocal support and care that is offered and received by the makers and the greater community.”

You will also find other local makers like Alyssa Oliveira, who makes floral suncatchers, jewelry, and charcuterie boards; Donna Yamasaki, who creates laser-cut boxes; Judi Morales Meyer will have her scrappy critters on hand; Claire Botsford-Allain will be vending dyed and screen-printed clothing; Kristen Anderson of TahoeGnomes will return with multiple styles of grab-and-go gnome kits; Fast & Luse Fiber Arts will be debuting a new hat style; Luca Stevens of Mountain Water Canvas returns with sail bags made from vintage windsurf sails; and Jane Rudolph-Bloom will be vending crocheted baskets with laser-cut wood bottoms.

“As a volunteer, this is an end-of-year celebration of all the makers at Truckee Roundhouse and a great way for our local community to learn about us,” said Rudolph-Bloom. Ceramic shop member Michaela Webb has been selling large pieces this year. “I feel so fortunate to live in a mountain town with incredible access to the outdoors and also incredible access to an affordable Makerspace and arts community,” said Webb.

Emily Deane of Locals Creative will be selling her art cards and prints in person for the first time. “The Holiday Block Party is a celebration of the community coming together to support our talented, creative, and hardworking local makers and artists,” Deane said.
