When Will the Roundhouse Open?

The E3 warehouse in summer 2015

The Roundhouse team is working hard to get our makerspace open this summer. In late summer of 2015, we signed a lease with the Truckee Airport District for warehouse E3 on the Airport Property, a ~3,400ft2 space with 20 foot ceilings.

The Airport agreed to bring some aspects of the space up to current code compliance with the following improvements before we could begin operations, such as:

  • ADA access
  • ADA compliant bathroom
  • Fire suppression system
  • Installation of an emergency exit
  • Upgrades to lighting
  • Upgrades to 240v and 120v power, with drops for all shops

With help from MWA Architects, and TTAD Engineering Peter Beaupre, Roundhouse BOD member Karin Johnson has been working on improvement plans for the space, with plan check and review ongoing with the Placer County Building, Planning, and Environmental Health departments in January 2016.

The Roundhouse will also be undertaking the following improvements prior to opening:

  • Dust mitigation
  • Noise mitigation
  • Separation of shops
  • Construction of work tables
  • Installation of member storage
  • Painting the walls
  • Placement of shops

Given the above, there is a lot to do this winter! We are thrilled by the level of support from our community thus far, and we are excited to get the Roundhouse open and begin operations.

We have developed a Phased Opening Plan, subject to change:
